NAAmodel#240 | A Principal Investigator from two space shuttle missions recently passed away. In his possession was this felt lemon (fish?). What are your thoughts?
|
lspooz | No doubt, it's a lemon. Unless you record Buzz confirming it as flown (and it's odd enough to pique his recollection) I'd let it drop. |
rgarner | You can always ask him? |
nasamad | May take a while but I'd start by looking for any mention in the onboard voice transcription, going by the Velcro patch it may have needed to be moved at some point during the mission, and briefly been mentioned. |
Greggy_D | Was blue velcro used in the Gemini capsules? |
space1 | The Velcro officially used on Gemini was a light gray. However, this is not an official item. I don't think the color of the Velcro can help us. If it is flown it may have stayed in Aldrin's pouch. |
NAAmodel#240 | The handwriting is that of my friend, Dr. David Larson. His career was with Grumman and was a Principal Investigator while with SUNY on STS-50 and STS-83. He received flown items but they would have been related to the shuttle. I don't think he had any reason to have known Aldrin. He was not a collector and I have no reason to believe it was in space. His son asked for your collective thoughts. |
Wehaveliftoff | Have you tried emailing him about it? |
NAAmodel#240 | Have not. Figured the astronauts get all sorts of crazy requests. If cSers could come up with an explanation I would. |
bwhite1976 | Aldrin is pretty active on Twitter. If you follow him and post a picture of this item he or his assistant might reply. It is a longshot, but it certainly wouldn't hurt to try. |
gareth89 | I've always gotten a reply from Buzz or his staff using the contact section on his website. They're generally very helpful and easy to deal with! |
Robert Pearlman | I reached out to Buzz through his manager and asked if he recognized it. He said he "doesn't believe that flew on Gemini 12." |
NAAmodel#240 | Thanks Robert. Will pass on to Larson's family. |
